Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has directed security agencies in the state to ensure a level playing field for all political parties to lawfully conduct their political activities and campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Otti gave the directive during the monthly State Security Council Meeting, where security developments across the state were reviewed.
Speaking after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, said the Governor had directed security agencies to grant approval to political parties seeking to hold campaigns, provided they meet the necessary requirements.
“He told us explicitly and in clear terms that all he wants is for us to create a level playing field for all,” Afolabi said.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd), said the Governor had also directed that political parties should be allowed to campaign freely, subject to payment of approved fees for the use of public facilities.
Ubah assured that security agencies were prepared to ensure peaceful campaigns and elections in 2027, warning that anyone who attempts to breach public peace would face the law.
The security officials said the state remained committed to maintaining a peaceful environment for political activities across party lines.
