The House of Representatives flagbearer of the nascent political platform, the Action Peoples Party, APP, for Ukwa West/East federal constituency in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections, Chief Sylvaus Uzoma Nwaji, has raised the alarmed that his life is in danger, alleging that there is a grand plot by some political forces to eliminate him before the national elections.
In an exclusive interview with NewsCritic online last Monday, Chief Nwaji, a former Chairman of Ukwa West Local Council, specifically accused his political rivals, the duo of Chief Chris Nkwonta of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Engr. Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, of allegedly sending hired assassins and kidnappers after him.
He revealed that his suspected traducers, advanced the sum of three million naira, to the hit men, who on August 28, 2023 confronted him along Umudiobia-Obehie road.
“On the said date, I was confronted by about four men, led by one Uzoma aka MKV. They said they have been contracted by Chief Chris Nkwonta and Engr. Nwoke to kidnap and kill me. They said they have been mobilized to the tune of three million naira for the job. I asked them why I have been earmarked for elimination. One of the four men they allegedly hired for the job has come openly to confess and the whole thing is now in public domain. For me, I don’t know why anybody should kill to achieve his or her political ambition. I found the whole thing surprising and strange,” Chief Nwaji stated.
He, therefore, called on all relevant authorities most especially the security agencies to as a matter of urgency move in to investigate the issue, as according to him such a development portend serious danger to our democracy. “I’m using this opportunity to appeal to all concerned to get to the root of this matter. The security agencies should move in to unravel the real situation. Good a thing, one of the key persons allegedly contracted to kill me has come out to confess. He has revealed that they maintain three kidnapping camps, namely in Omuma, Obigbo in Rivers state and the third one Abala in Obingwa local council of Abia state.
He equally confessed that the plan was to kidnap and take me to one of the camps then kill me. Again, I don’t know why I should be earmarked for elimination by anyone. Politics, I believe should not be a do-or-die affair. The quest to serve the people if sincerely motivated, should not lead to the spilling of blood,” Nwaji further stated.
Although as at the time of reporting on Wednesday, the duo of Chief Nkwonta and Engr Adinigwe, could not be reached for comments. Authoritative sources told NewsCritic online that they are already aware of the allegations, as the matter is well known to almost everybody in Ukwa Land. They also revealed that worried about the issue, traditional rulers from the area have waded in and will be meeting soon over the matter.
