Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has responded to comments allegedly attributed to the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Sir Obi Aguocha, over alleged political dominance by one family.
Orji spoke during a meeting with community women leaders from Ikwuano/Umuahia in Umuahia, where he said he had deliberately avoided personal attacks, insisting that political campaigns should focus on issues, records and service to the people.
“I have tried everything not to join that train because I believe campaign is purely issue-based. But for clarity, I will respond to some people,” he said.
Addressing the allegation of political dominance by one family, Orji challenged his critics to examine the political appointments and positions held by members of their own families.
He also rejected allegations surrounding transformers reportedly provided during his tenure, insisting that the equipment remains in communities and continues to serve residents.
According to Orji, about 32 transformers were provided to various communities, including Ohuhu, and he challenged Aguocha to identify comparable projects he had facilitated for constituents.
“I didn’t even know that we gave out about 32 transformers, and all of them are still there and serving our people,” he said.
Orji also urged the women leaders to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
His remarks come as political activities intensify in Ikwuano/Umuahia, with candidates highlighting their records and exchanging claims over representation and development.
