Erstwhile commissioner for Information in Abia Chief Eze Chikamnayo has returned to the government of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu as special adviser on communications and strategy, after series of allegations and negative write-up he published against Governor Ikpeazu, Senator T.A Orji and Speaker Chinedu Orji in recent time.
His appointment came as a surprise to many Abians, thereby receiving negative criticisms at the same time. Chikamnayo, following the new appointment has swiftly deleted all his Facebook posts which are anti-government barely 24 hours after he was announced as special adviser to the governor.
Also the former commissioner has reportedly dumped his former political party, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, under which platform he contested for the Umunneochi state constituency seat in 2019 and performed woefully.
Chikamnayo before his new appointment had joined the critics of the government to castigate Ikpeazu’s government, especially former senator T.A Orji and Speaker Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Chinedu Orji. He accused the state government of non-performance and corruption, arguing that it is the reason behind the non-payment of workers’ salaries and the suffering in the state.
In one of such publications, Chikamnayo alleged that one Gbalex Chikeze, a nephew of Senator T. A Orji and a member of the hit squad known as Ochendo Boys attached to his Office at Ojike Street in Umuahia, is planning to attack him.
He said “I have made details of the attack available to the Police in my petition and asked my family to relocate immediately.
“I have been instructed by my Lawyer and the Police to insulate the identity of my Son from the social media as investigation is ongoing.
“Obviously, Gbalex Chikeze and his gang had attempted to kidnap my Son around Government College Umuahia when a prompt alarm by one of his friends attracted passers-by who came to his rescue.
“I wish to thank all my friends here and everyone that has called in to offer help and advice.
“My decision to join my voice in asking Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu and Engr Chinedum Orji to listen to the voice of reason and pay the languishing Pensioners and workers in HMB amongst others have been a source of serious challenges to me in the past three days.
“I, will however, not relent until our long suffering citizens get the treatment they deserve.
“I will be updating you ALL as investigations continue.
Observers are asking Chikamnayo who said he will continue to fight for the masses of Abia state if anything has changed now he has taken appointment in the government he swore that there is nothing good about it.
Chikamnayo has been in and out of government since 1999, this making his eight comeback either as commissioner or special adviser. Analysts are of the opinion that there is more to his appointment by Ikpeazu than meets the eyes.
