The immediate past Deputy Transition Committee Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Eze Okwulehie, has said that it is not true that he or anyone collected money from Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on behalf of the ENDSars protesters, who protested in Umuahia yesterday.
Chief Eze Okwulehie, who spoke to NewsCritic against the backdrop of allegations that some of the leaders of the ENDSars protesters in Umuahia yesterday collected huge sums of money running into several millions from Governor Ikpeazu, who refused to address the protesters yesterday.
An APC Chieftain in Abia, Chief Chinedum Obilor aka Iyerioba, had alleged that some PDP members were taken into the government House during the protest and given money for the protesters. He went on to say that instead of declaring the money, the PDP members came out and declared that the protest was over.
Okwulehie said that he is happy that the ENDSars protest in Umuahia was peaceful and successful, adding that the youths are not going to protest again today being Tuesday 20th October, 2020. He said anybody that want to protest today is on his or her own.
He said Umuahia youths have done well in registering their grievances against the atrocities committed by the SARS operatives, noting that it’s time for Aba, the Enyimba city to follow suit and complete the circle.
Okwulehie said the Umuahia protest was organised within the ambits of the law as everything was in order, while commending the youths for turning out enmass for the protest.
According to Eze Okwulehie, it is of great significance that Governor Ikpeazu has constituted a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to probe the activities and abuse of office by the SARS in the state.
