The ENDSars protest in Umuahia the capital of Abia State today left motorists stranded as major roads within the city, especially those linking the Akanu Ibiam Road where the seat of government is located was closed by protesters.

As at 9pm tonight motorists were having a rough time breaking through the several road blockades to get to their destination. The Federal Medical Centre junction of Aba Road was blocked which prevented motorists from leaving the town, also is the Factory road junction which is just overlooking the government house, Umuahia.

Though the youths had a successful protest march around the city in columns and to Bende Road Umuahia, where the Abia State Police Headquarters is situated. This reporter who monitored the protests reports that the ENDSars protesters forced the Central Police Station and Area Command Umuahia to shut their gates thereby by preventing visitors from gaining access into the premises throughout the period of the protests.

The protesters among whom were Nigerian artistes gathered at the government house area demanding that the governor should address them before they disperse. However, until the time of filing this report in the night there was no sign of governor Okezie Ikpeazu in Umuahia.

NewsCritic reports that the absence of the governor must have infuriated the youths who visited their anger on innocent motorists by blocking the major routes in the capital city. Though Governor Ikpeazu through the commissioner for Information and Strategy announced the composition of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on SARS atrocities, however, the governor is yet to make any public or official visit to SARS formations in Umuahia to confirm if truly it has been disbanded as directed by the Inspector General of Police, IGP.

This newspaper could not verify if the protesters would return tomorrow to continue from where they stopped or end the protest. Also, some notable government functionaries and local government transition chairman were visibly seen participating in the protest march.
