The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly denied allegations that its State Working Committee (SWC) has endorsed any aspirant for the party’s forthcoming governorship primaries, describing such claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the SWC specifically refuted assertions reportedly made by governorship aspirant, Mascot Uzor Kalu, suggesting that the committee was involved in a planned endorsement meeting.
The committee stated that at no time has it endorsed any aspirant for the governorship ticket or any other elective position, stressing that such actions fall outside its constitutional responsibilities. According to the statement, the SWC’s role is strictly administrative, ensuring a fair and credible process for all contenders.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the State Working Committee has not endorsed any aspirant for the governorship ticket or for any elective position whatsoever,” the statement read.
The party leadership further clarified that the only collective endorsement made by its structure at the state level remains that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with national party directives.
Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, the APC noted that under the leadership of State Chairman Chijioke Chukwu, all aspirants would be given equal opportunity to contest in a transparent and credible primary process.
The SWC also cautioned party stakeholders against spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension within the party, noting that participation in meetings or events by committee members should not be misconstrued as endorsement.
The statement concluded by emphasizing the party’s resolve to remain united and focused on securing electoral victories in future polls, while upholding a process that reflects the will of its members.
