Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers has cautioned politicians to desist from using the traditional kingship to play partisan politics, saying that at no time did they endorse the aspiration of Hon Onyedi Okwulehie, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Umuahia North State Constituency seat in the 2023 General Election.
The Ohuhu royal fathers made their position known while addressing the press in Umuahia earlier today over media reports alluding to their endorsement of the APC candidate for Umuahia North State Constituency, among other claims.
Speaking through their Chairman, HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, the traditional rulers disclosed that it is a truism that they received one of their worthy sons Hon Onyedi Okwulehie, who as a mark of respect presented himself before the kingship which they acknowledged as their beloved son.
So “I called him our worthy son because he came to tell his fathers of his intention. It is a mark of respect that is what I mean and that is what I’m talking about that we received him Onyedi Okwulehie as our beloved son because he came to us and we don’t have any problem or regret for doing such.
“But what we want to address is the issue of his alleged endorsement by Ndi Eze and we want to say categorically that we have not endorsed him or anybody, we only received him. No matter where you belong, they are our sons. Again, talking about him paying his dues …he didn’t pay any dues to us because we don’t take dues, it’s only natural that one visits his father with kola nuts to receive his blessing and that is exactly what we did, and or are doing.
“We’ve asked them to go to the field and whoever that wins…it’s only one person that can emerge at a time. So, we are advising them not to take it personal or make it a do-or-die politics. So, please let them not play politics with Ndi Eze and let them not make inciting or incendiary statements against the other.
Responding to a question on whether the purported endorsement extends to the APC governorship candidate, Chief Ikechi Emenike, HRM Eze Ofoegbu said “their governorship candidate has not seen Ndi Eze, any of them who comes we shall receive him as our worthy son, no matter where you belong. They are our children and we are ready to receive them as fathers to come and tell us their mission or what they want to do for the Ohuhu people and we advise them rightly, he pointed out.
They warned the writer of the said misleading report to stop spreading falsehood because it is detrimental to the journalism profession and the society.
Some of the traditional rulers who joined at the press briefing were HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, HRM Eze KAN Emekobum, Eze Bobby Aguocha, Eze Iheanyichukwu Nwokenna and Eze Pastor Philip Ajomiwe. Others were Eze Charles Ngwuli, Eze Akabuike, Eze Asomugha and Eze Udoka, the Eme 11 of Ofeme Ancient Kingdom.
