Member representing Umuahia Central State Constituency at the 8th Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Anthony Chinasa aka Abiola has said that the state legislators will make good laws and pass resolutions that will help to realize the great vision of the Governor Dr Alex Otti. He also said that the new leadership of the Abia State House of Assembly has the capacity to drive the necessary changes needed for the governor to deliver on good governance and campaign promises, adding that any time they prove incapable of discharging their duties the lawmakers will do the needful.
Hon Anthony Chinasa, who stated this during an exclusive interview with NewsCritic online weekend in Umuahia, stressed that the Abia State legislators are prepared in terms of performing their legislative duties, and also working in tandem with the executive arm to rewrite the chequered history of Abia state.
The Labour Party, LP, elected lawmaker replaced Rt Hon Chinedum Orji of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the representative of the Umuahia Central State Constituency. In the interview, he appealed to the good people of Abia State to be patience with Gov Alex Otti because the job to be done is enormous and the mess huge. Hon Anthony Chinasa was of the view that at the time Gov Otti was inaugurated Abia state was at its lowest point, saying that the governor has kick-started in a positive note, as well as assured of his commitment to right the wrongs perpetrated by the past administration.
Responding to a question on the spate of criticisms trailing the Gov Otti led administration one month in office, especially from the camp of the opposition PDP, Hon Anthony Chinasa has this to say; “In all honesty Abians can agree with me that as at the date he (Otti) was sworn in Abia State was at its lowest point, that is true. Criticism is normal in politics and what they are doing if they are constructive about it will make the gov to be firm and keep to his promises.
“What Gov Otti said was that he will pay backlog of salaries and pensions within six months of the administration, and we are at the formation stage of the new govt. It is easy to talk from the outside; they should know you don’t score goal from behind the goal post. So, it is to reposition Abia that we are talking about and we are not playing tricks. Look at what is being done about the mountains of refuse heaps in Aba and Umuahia, the palliative measures put in place, the payment of salaries before 28th of the month and the reforms taking place in the system. So, Abians should be patient with Dr Otti, we are optimistic he won’t fail the people.
Speaking further about his covenant with his constituents, Hon Anthony Chinasa maintained that he is prepared for the legislative duties, and to cover any area the former lawmaker Rt Hon Chinedum Orji didn’t do well. He promised to protect the interests of all the residents of the Umuahia urban, irrespective of tribe or political party affiliations. He assured that he would perform optimally and within the available resources and strength because according to him, the people understands the strength of a lawmaker.
