All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, governorship candidate for Abia State, Prof Greg Ibe, says he has filed an appeal for stay of execution in the judgement of Abuja High Court nullifying the party’s governorship primary in the state.
NewsCritic online reports that Justice Binta Nyako of Abuja High Court, had in a suit filed by one of the governorship aspirants, Chief Chikwe Udensi, against the primaries nullified the APGA primaries, while he ordered for a fresh primaries within 14 days.
This judgement is coming barely 24 hours after a federal high court in Umuahia, dismissed a suit filed by another aspirant, Gen. Ijioma N. Ijioma, also seeking the nullification of the primary election, for lack of merit.
Udensi and Ijioma came third and fourth respectively in the May 29, 2022 governorship primary which was won by Prof Ibe, while Etigwe Uwa, SAN, came second .
In a statement issued in Umuahia and signed by his Media Aide, Rev. Sleek Ogwo, the APGA guber candidate said his lawyers had appealed the judgement, adding that he had also secured a stay of execution.
He said the legal tussle over his candidacy is the work of retrogressive forces who are out to hold Abia State hostage. According to him the inauguration of the campaign council slated for Friday and other campaign activities of the party would go on as planned. He called on the party faithful to remain calm and not panic because everything is under control.
The APGA governorship candidate said that Udensi and his sponsors would not be able to stop or prevail against the will of God, expressing hope that the Appellate court would uphold his candidacy.
He said that Udensi and his sponsors would fail in their bid to stop his emergence as governor of Abia State come 20223.
