A governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, in Abia state Barr (Mrs) Nnenna Lancaster Okoro, said she would never contemplate sleeping with any man in her political life in a bid to rise to political limelight in the country. This is just as the former All Progressives Congress member has joined the race for the Abia governorship come 2023 with the promise to return Abia to its glorious past.
Addressing party stakeholders at Umuoriehi Umuahia on April 28th, 2022, ahead of her formal declaration of interest for the Abia governorship, Mrs Nnenna Lancaster Okoro said that she is on a divine mission to salvage Abia State, adding that she is not in doubt of the message God sent her to Abia state.
The PRP governorship hopeful stressed that time has come for the people of Abia State to ask the woman to hold their mandate, saying that she would not disappoint them. She regretted that Abia State is not encouraging women participation in politics, and wondered how in a 24-member state house of assembly no single woman is found there.
Mrs Nnenna Lancaster Okoro pointed out that women have special attributes that differentiates them from men, arguing that if a woman is in the government of the South East states the IPOB agitation and youth restiveness won’t be there because there will be job opportunities.
According to the PRP governorship contender, “there’s hardship, despair and desperation in the land and no way out- the youths are boiling but I want to tell them to relax, good thing is coming in a while”, Nnenna Lancaster Okoro posits.
She said “it pains me when I see the rot going on in Abia state whereas we don’t need federal allocation to develop and be self-sustaining, we’ll fix Abia, she declares. Adding that Abia is blessed with natural resources including crude oil, cement (limestone), gold, arable farm lands and rivers of water with sea foods.
Of all the problems besieging Abia, Nnenna Lancaster Okoro said the one that disturbs her the more is the dilapidated state of road infrastructure in the state. She recalled an incident where a security personnel called Abia a ‘useless state’ before her due to the bad road network.
“Abia is this way due to politics of poverty and money, I’m not afraid of anybody. I popularised APC in Abia but because I refused to yield to their demands…I left the party for them. I don’t have to sleep with any man and that’s why women run away from politics. My name is Nma and I say Abia gadi nma”.
The interim state chairman of PRP, Pastor Kensmart Nwachukwu, in his remarks called on the stakeholders to support the party’s governorship aspirant actualise her ambition. He enjoined party faithful to join him in building a formidable party that would stand the test of time and win elections in Abia, adding that the party’s state congress would hold soon to elect substantive leadership of the party in the state.
