A university don and former Students Union Leader, Architect Samuel Uchendu Uzoanya, PhD, has said that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, double zoning in Abia State was designed to favour the Ngwa clan, describing it as trash and unreasonable. This is just as he said that the Umuahia North (Ohuhu) state constituency seat come 2023 should be left for Isingwu bloc in line with the principles of justice and equity, adding that any candidate who is contesting from a different bloc is only courting trouble.
The university don, who was the former Dean of Studies and head of department Abia State University, barred his mind in an exclusive interview with NewsCritic online in Umuahia.
According to High Chief Samuel Uchendu Uzoanya, PhD, the controversy over zoning emanates from insincerity, greed and lack of true service to people. He held that Peter Tosh in one of his songs said he doesn’t want peace, that all he wants is equal rights and justice”.
Therefore, “If we want peace, if we want decorum in any system we have to be straight forward, and shouldn’t look at monetary acquisition because in Ohuhu we have two divides mainly Umuhu na Okauiga.
Supreme High Chief Samuel Uchendu Uzoanya took exception to the purported position of the Umuhu Principal PDP Stakeholders on no micro-zoning, saying that it smacks off greed and gross irresponsibility. So “If you are coming from that angle, I’m the first state chairman of a political party from Ohuhu, the second is the late Emeka Nwachukwu from Ohiya before Chief Uzodinma Okpara, mind you Dr Otuka was acting not substantive. The people who said they are this and that in Ohuhu are not helping matters, they are not being straight forward, they are not bringing justice and equity. Those people should be careful”, he stressed.
Talking about Umuahia North constituency seat, Arc Uzoanya said “it’s Umuhu turn and because Ofeme and Oriendu had taken their turns from Umuhu, the people that are qualified to go now is Isingwu. There shouldn’t be any struggle or rancour, there shouldn’t be any distortions over it. All the political parties should pick their candidates from Isingwu, any other ward fielding candidate is only looking for trouble”.
The university don called on Ohuhu eggheads to come together and without greed look for a consensus candidate for the Umuahia/Ikwuano House of Representatives race. He pointed out that many of the aspirants in the race don’t even know the mythical attributes of their communities, because they don’t stay at home.
He advised that Ohuhu leaders should reach out and talk to our Ibeku brothers if they are interested in the race, adding that without that it’s risky.
