The Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers of Umuahia North State Constituency Thursday June 17, 2021 passed a vote of confidence on the Deputy Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike, with a promise to continue to support his political aspirations.
In addition, the royal fathers also presented Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike with a Royal Excellence Award in appreciation of his selfless service to the the people of Ohuhu in particular and Abia State in general.
This was the highpoint of the programme of activities lined up to mark Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike’s six-years in office, as member representing Umuahia North state constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, which commenced with the lawmaker rendering his scorecard of Tangible Projects to the council of traditional rulers.
Chairman Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, while speaking on why the traditional institution decided to pass confidence vote as well as honour the Deputy Chief Whip, described Hon Onuzuruike as a worthy son of Ohuhu in whom they are well pleased considering his sterling performance so far.
Eze Ofoegbu said that what they have done is a testimonial to Hon Onuzuruike’s good representation which has witnessed the execution of quality projects in Ohuhu Constituency which was attracted by him, describing it as the first of its kind in the history of Ohuhu Constituency.
He promised that Ndi Eze Ohuhu would continue to support and encourage the Deputy Chief Whip and urged him to do more in the remaining two years to end his second term.
Similarly, Eze Philip Ajomiwe thanked the Deputy Chief Whip for his youth empowerment programmes which, according to him has helped to reduce the problem of social vices among the youths in Ohuhu. He tasked Hon Onuzuruike not to stop with empowering of the youths, but to also monitor and mentor them through his foundation.
Both Eze Nzenwata Mbakwe and Eze Innocent Nwaigwe thanked the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmaker as well as the leadership of the party in Ohuhu for the great job they are doing, and charged Hon Onuzuruike not to relent on the good job he has started doing.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief Whip told the traditional rulers that he came to present his score sheet for the people to have first hand information on what he has been able to achieve in his six-years in office, and to thank them for their support.
He stressed that he decided to capture his achievements in action and pictures to clear any doubt regarding his scorecard, which excludes his empowerment programmes and various acts of benevolence to the society.
According to Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike, all the projects that he earmarked to execute across the five political wards in Ohuhu have been completed except for one that is still ongoing and at advanced stage of construction.
In presenting his scorecard, Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike disclosed that he started his Constituency programmes by grading over 10 kilometres of roads in Ohuhu, and so far attracted the construction and completion of a skill acquisition centre at Ofeme in Umuhu ward.
The lawmaker also said that he attracted the construction of a 4 classroom block at Okaiuga Nkwoegwu, as well as installed a 33KVA Transformer at Umuohuru Nkwoegwu ward.
Not only that, Hon Onuzuruike attracted the building of 4 classroom block at Umungbokwo in Isingwu ward and constructed an oil and cassava processing mill at Umuire community Nkwoachara ward just as he renovated the Umuakam Eziala hall in Nkwoegwu ward. This is in addition to the completion of the Umuawa civic Hall project. He also constructed and completed the Customary Court, Okaiuga Nkwoegwu, while the construction of the Magistrate court Afugiri in Afugiri ward is ongoing.
In his remarks at the event, Abia State Commissioner for Finance and Ohuhu PDP Leader, Dr Aham Uko, expressed his happiness that the choice Ohuhu people made in electing Hon Onuzuruike was not a misplace one at all.
Dr Aham Uko pointed out that what the Deputy Chief Whip has done in his six-years in office has demonstrated the fact that he has love for Ohuhu people. He said that Onuzuruike is setting the pace for others to follow, adding that he has succeeded to make himself a reference point.
