I’m Not Threatened By My Wife’s Position, Never, Says Dr Ikemba Iweala

Dr Ikemba Iweala, the Medical Doctor husband of former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the economy, Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said that his wife’s rise at the global stage does not pose any form of threat to him as the husband or the marriage.

Dr Ikemba Iweala spoke with the NewsCritic online at his country home Umuda Isingwu after the dedication ceremony of Revd (Dr) W.E Iweala Road at Isingwu, Umuahia. He said that Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is doing her work well, just like any other professional.

According to Dr Ikemba, in as much as one is satisfied with his work either as a teacher or medical doctor and does it well that person is fulfilled and doesn’t need to bother about someone else position or rise in the society be it wife or husband.

He said that Dr Ngozi Iweala, his wife rose to the level she is today because she knows her work, adding that for her it is just normal life accomplishments that will not make her not to be the good wife that she is.

Dr Ikemba Iweala, who is a world acclaimed surgeon based in the United States of America stressed that there is nothing to worry or fear about the World Trade Centre, WTO, Director General designate because all the parties are doing their jobs well.

Earlier at the dedication ceremony of the late Revd (Dr) Iweala Road, Isingwu, Dr Ikemba said he is happy that people gathered for their sake. He pointed out that the story of the road which was named after his father is long, adding that he must first of all thank the Abia State government for believing in the project by remitting its counterpart fund.

He also expressed his appreciation to the World Bank Group and NEWMAP for assisting in making the community road project come true. Dr Ikemba went on to tell the story of how his father, the late Revd Iweala made a wish to his wife as Minister of Finance, to ensure that the Isingwu road was constructed because the Isingwu community lacks access roads.

Dr Ikemba observed that he was touched by his father’s request, especially for the fact that he made the wish at a time every one around his wife were asking for job placement or other kind of favours.

He said that Nigerians must promote the philosophy of “see something, say something and do something”. He noted that the Isingwu road project became a reality because his father saw it and did something by talking to someone who can be of assistance.

The special guest of the occasion, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, former NDDC Executive Chairman in his remarks thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu because he made the NEWMAP possible. He said while he thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the Second Niger Bridge, he said that without Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Uche Orji of the Sovereign Wealth Fund the bridge would have been at the drawing board.
