As political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election continue to gather momentum in Abia State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Barr. Kelechi Anosike, PhD, has recorded another significant milestone with a resounding royal support from the revered Ohuhu Traditional Rulers Council.
The historic event took place at the palace of His Royal Majesty, Eze Sir Chijioke Chikwekwem (Uga I) of Ngwoegwu Autonomous Community, Afugiri, where traditional rulers from Ohuhu Kingdom unanimously offered royal blessings and prayers for Dr. Anosike’s governorship ambition.
Leading a delegation that included prominent party stakeholders and supporters, Dr. Anosike, accompanied by Ambassador Empire Kanu, visited the royal fathers to formally seek their support and share his vision for a prosperous Abia State.
Welcoming the PDP governorship hopeful on behalf of the Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers, the Chairman of the Council, HRM Eze Charles Chionye Ngwuli, commended the visit before presenting Dr. Anosike for traditional prayers and blessings.
In a powerful declaration, His Royal Eminence Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, prayed fervently for the PDP candidate and confidently declared victory ahead of the 2027 polls.
“The Ohuhu traditional rulers have spoken with one voice. We have blessed you and declared that you will occupy the Abia State Government House in 2027. Whether the election result is announced on Nkwo, Orie, Afor, or Eke market day, victory shall be yours. You are our son, and we pray that God grants you success.”
The royal support further strengthens Dr. Anosike’s growing grassroots acceptance and signals increasing confidence in his leadership credentials across Abia communities.
Addressing the royal fathers, Dr. Anosike emphasized that his administration would prioritize the welfare of every Abian through people-focused governance and practical economic reforms.
According to him, tackling the rising cost of living remains a top priority, with plans to introduce Operation Feed Abia (OFA)—an ambitious agricultural initiative aimed at boosting food production, improving food security, creating employment, and empowering young people across the state.
He also pledged to restore the dignity of traditional institutions by improving their welfare and giving them greater constitutional relevance in community governance.
“Our traditional rulers remain the custodians of our culture and the first point of conflict resolution within our communities. They deserve better recognition and improved remuneration. My administration will propose legislation to secure their welfare, strengthen alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and provide adequate support for palace administration. Whatever is currently being paid to them, we are committed to doubling it because their contributions to peace and development cannot be overlooked,” Dr. Anosike stated.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Empire Kanu declared that the Peoples Democratic Party has overcome its internal challenges and is now united and fully prepared for the 2027 elections.
He described Dr. Anosike as a visionary leader, a team player, and the candidate capable of delivering transformational leadership that will reposition Abia State for sustainable development.
With support continuing to pour in from influential stakeholders, traditional institutions, and grassroots supporters, observers believe Dr. Kelechi Anosike’s governorship campaign is steadily gaining momentum as the race toward Government House, Umuahia, intensifies.
