Even though the 2027 General Election appears to be miles away, in the eyes of the Nigerian political class and in their estimation, the race and move to securing power in the next elections have intensified with focus already shifted on strategizing for the next electoral contest.
Both the incumbents and the opposition are in this struggle together on how to retain power and or capture power with high level political maneuverings being the order of the day.
In Abia State for instance, where the Labour Party, LP, holds sway (Though the Gov is allegedly under suspension now) and fighting to entrench itself as a formidable platform, beyond the ‘Obi wave’ that propelled the party to power in 2023, it might not be an easy task for the Gov Alex Otti and the Labour Party.
The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, have their worry over the Labour Party leadership in Abia State and are poised individually and collectively to bring an end to its reign in Abia come 2027.
One of the political groups in the APC that is seeing the downfall of the Labour Party in Abia State in the run up to the 2027 polls is the Harmony 2027 Organization. The group led by Barr Longman Nwachukwu a former commissioner in Abia State, is out to ensure that APC fields the former Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation Chief Henry Ikoh as its governorship candidate for Abia in 2027.
The group which met in Umuahia the Abia State capital on Friday 20th June, 2025 insists that Chief Henry Ikoh remains the best candidate for the APC, adding that ‘Abia is a low hanging fruit’.
The group said that its support for Chief Ikoh originates from the fact that the Chairman of the Governing Board of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, is better equipped to serve the interest of the people of Abia State, describing him as a servant leader.
Harmony 2027 Organization also praised Chief Ikoh’s humility and knowledge of contemporary political and economic issues that will define his leadership, while assessing him to be a team player who is kind hearted in serving the needs of the people above the needs of self.
NewsCritic reports that as an entrepreneur and philanthropist, Chief Ikoh has supported many community development projects and awarded scholarships to countless number of Abia indigenes. This is in addition to numerous employment opportunities he has provided to the teeming Abia youths to help mitigate the problem of unemployment.
The group also maintained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated his love for the South East with the establishment of the South East Development Commission, SEDC, and support for the development of the region, hence should get the winning votes for his reelection in 2027. They emphasized that Abia will join the mainstream politics of Nigeria in 2027, projecting APC’s victory in the State.
He said that “very soon we’ll let Abia people know the level of stealing of State resources that is going on under the pretext of road rehabilitation”. Chief Barr Nwachukwu also asked members of the Harmony 2027 Organization to prepare for the APC congresses that is around the corner, saying that all hands must be on deck because “we’ve a big role to play”.
The group declared that it can’t be afraid of Gov Otti and his antics, because currently he is not a member of any known political party.
Harmony 2027 Organization is a strong structure within the APC that is seeking for the election of Chief Ikoh as the next governor of Abia due to his impressive credentials as a tested and trusted entrepreneur and politician.
The group is also mobilizing support in Abia and beyond for the re-election of President Tinubu and the APC leadership.
