Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Abia State Command, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), organized a sensitization workshop on corruption themed ‘Stamping Out Corruption in a Rebranded NSCDC’.
The training aimed at educating officers on the importance and functions of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit to upscale their knowledge in preventing and combating corruption within and outside the Corps.
ACC Nzeh Joan Njideka head of Unit, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), NSCDC, Abia State Command in her address said that corruption, in any form, is a cancer that erodes trust, undermines our values, and hinders our progress. She maintains that it diverts resources, stifles innovation, and creates an uneven playing field for everyone, adding that “we cannot, and we will not, tolerate it as an institution.
According to the ACC corruption often manifests in small, seemingly insignificant ways – a misplaced item, a favouritism shown, a bending of the rules. But these small acts accumulate in creating a culture where unethical behaviour becomes normalized and even expected. We must be vigilant against all forms of corruption, both big and small, she advises.
“At ACTU, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct. We believe that a culture of transparency, accountability, and fairness is essential for our professional success. This is not just a policy on paper; it’s a commitment we must all embrace, individually and collectively.
“Today’s gathering is a crucial step in reaffirming that commitment. We’re here to discuss the challenges we face, to share best practices, and to develop strategies for strengthening our anti-corruption efforts. We will be exploring our professional ethics, code of conduct and other ways of stamping out corruption in the state command headquarters of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
“This is not a one-time event. Stamping out corruption is an ongoing process that requires continuous effort and vigilance. It requires a shift in mindset, a commitment to ethical behaviour at all levels and a willingness to speak up when we see something wrong.
