Chibuike Joshua C. is a final year student in the department of Public Health at the Abia State University Uturu. He is a native of Umuda Okpuala Okpu-Isingwu autonomous community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State. He is one of the beneficiaries of the Chief Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia sponsored free JAMB registration educational empowerment programme.
There are countless numbers of undergraduates studying at various institutions of higher learning in Nigeria, who either benefitted from the free WAEC or JAMB registration courtesy of the educational empowerment programme of the man whose life is all about touching lives and rendering service to humanity. Some indigent students also benefit from both WAEC and JAMB like Michael Mmesomachi Blessing a student of community secondary school Isingwu, and other lucky students in her category.
During a recent visit to community secondary school Isingwu by the leadership of the Team Nwa-Abia Movement to register some indigent students for the 2025 WAEC examinations, a staff of the school Mrs Ihedioha testified that her daughter was one of the beneficiaries of Chris Nwa-Abia sponsored WAEC registration in 2024, and that she has just been given admission to the Federal University of Technology Owerri.
Mrs Ihedioha spoke glowingly about the Chris Nwa-Abia educational empowerment and the fact that majority of the beneficiaries pass their exams, and secure admissions into the Nigerian universities. To her there is something divine about his free registration exercise that provides the leeway to prospective undergraduates to pass in flying colours and secure admission with ease.
In undertaking the exercise for the registration of the students for the WAEC exams, especially those who applied following the advertisements, the Team Nwa-Abia Movement said it visited virtually all the secondary schools in Ohuhu to meet with the students and to pay the registration fee of 40 shortlisted students. The elated principals of the various schools were full of Chris Nwa-Abia praises as they prayed for more blessings upon him.
At Okaiuga Nkwoegwu Secondary School where six students were registered on 11th February, 2025 the principal Mrs Ollah Grace Usim, thanked the Team Nwa-Abia and also acknowledged the fact that this has been an annual programme by Chris Nwa-Abia. Afugiri Girls secondary school had two indigent students registered, while Ofeme Secondary Technical School got four students registered for the examination.
Ohuhu Community Secondary School, Amaogwugwu received the highest number of students’ registration for WAEC with a total of seven students, while Community Secondary School Isingwu got five indigent students whose WAEC fees were paid. Others were Orieamaenyi Secondary School, Williams Memorial Secondary School, Afugiri and Diamond Montessori Secondary School Umuyota Alike, which got one, two and one candidate respectively.
Ossah Community Secondary School and Victory International School, Afugiri had two students each, while D’ Great Ambassadors College Okaiuga Nkwoegwu got three students registered. The last was Maramatha Dynamic College behind School of the blind, Low-Cost Road Umuahia with one student who is from Umuoriehi.
In shortlisting the candidates, the Team Nwa-Abia Movement ensured that all the five wards in Ohuhu are represented, and that Ohiya is not forgotten. Unfortunately, the candidates we shortlisted from Ohiya community secondary school, when the Team Nwa-Abia visited the school there were no students at sight and no confirmation from the school authorities.
Chief Chris Nwa-Abia, Ohuhu born entrepreneur and great philanthropist has sustained his annual educational empowerment programme that has seen over 1000 students benefit from WAEC, JAMB sponsorship. The programme is in line with Chief Chris Nwa-Abia’s philosophy that no child should be denied the right to good education on account of unavailability of resources.
Some of the students who made it to the university level also get support from the educational support programme.
