Member representing Isiala Ngwa North/South constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Ginger Onwusibe has clarified that he has no plans to be a deputy governor of Abia State, in a joint ticket with the Deputy Speaker of the house of representatives Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu as being insinuated in certain quarters.
He said that speculation has been rife on the probability of Rt Hon Ben Kalu running as Governor and himself as his deputy, insisting that there is no such plan as the Deputy Speaker is focused on his job as their leader.
Hon Onwusibe also disclosed that he is not inclined to becoming a deputy governor because the office is not tasking, “so I don’t have the patience to be a deputy governor, he maintains.
The Isiala Ngwa North/South representative stated this when he received members of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria, OMPAN, Abia State chapter, who paid him a visit weekend at his Amapu Ntigha country home.
He charged the OMPAN to help the government of Dr Alex Otti to succeed, adding that as human beings nobody is infallible, hence we should always correct or criticise constructively.
He advised the Online Media Practitioners not to be praise-singers of the government when it is not performing, because it would help the government to derail in its mandate, noting that Gov Alex Otti is working with imperfect people who may want to satisfy their selfish desires. He stressed that Gov Otti means well for Abia State and will not like to support anything that will be injurious to the people.
Hon Onwusibe said he is in support of the decision of Gov Otti to cancel the employment of over 7000 illegally employed people by the previous administration after it had lost election, saying it was wrong.
“You cannot bring in 7000 people when you know you have lost the election, who do you want to give the burden, why didn’t you employ them long before now? he asked. He said Gov Otti would do the needful as far as employment is concerned at the right time.
Speaking on the gale of defections hitting the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, the federal lawmaker wondered how they are moving into the All Progressives Congress, APC, as if there is no one in the party again. “It’s alright, let’s see how it will go… the highest they form factions”.
He assured his constituents of his readiness to deliver quality representation that will help improve their welfare, adding that he has embarked on a lot of empowerment programmes.
OMPAN Chairman, Promise Uzoma Okoro thanked the Reps member for congratulating him on his election and for observing the transparent manner the election was conducted.
The OMPAN Chairman restated his earlier assertion that OMPAN is not a stooge of the government or politicians in power, nor attack dogs of opposition politicians, but strongly believe in the journalism principle of neutrality, saying this is why we are fostering this relationship across all spectrum of the society.”
