The university town of Keffi in Nasarawa state has been gripped with palpable tension following the death of a 200-level female student in the hands of a speeding driver.
The accident occurred on Wednesday 18 January, 2023, while the student Adama Abdulraham was about to cross the road into the school campus to write her exams.
According to eye witness account, the female undergraduate never had any premonition of the fate that awaits her that fateful day as she made to cross the busy road to enter the school gate at Angwan Lambu area of Keffi.
A speeding driver was said to had knocked her down and she died before she got to the hospital. The news of her death created tension within the campus town as students and residents blamed the state government for failure to construct a pedestrian bridge at the front of the school thereby putting the lives of students in jeopardy.
Nasarawa state University was built by then governor Abdullahi Adamu, who is the current national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Critics of the APC chairman taunted him for priding himself as the ‘bridge builder’ whilst he failed to erect a simply pedestrian bridge in front of the university for the safety of the students.
Miss Adama, was until her death, a 200-level student of the Department of Mass Communication. The entire city is said to be in grief at the time of this report.
