Christ the King Catholic Church, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia, today conferred a Pillar of Hope Award on the Speaker of the Abia State House Of Assembly Rt Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji.
Also honoured by the Parish was former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia Central at the National Assembly, Senator T.A. Orji, who was conferred with Pillar of Support Award for his strong support to Christendom in general and promotion of Christian values.
Presenting the award during the 2020 Catholic Men Organization’s Men’s Day Celebration, the Parish Priest, Very Rev Benedict Okike said the Speaker through his Direct Touch Empowerement Initiatives has given hope to numerous people in the society especially in Abia State. He urged other leaders to emulate the Speaker’s style of leadership which he said was worth following.
Responding, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, appreciated the Church for bestowing the award on him and promised to continue to support the Church and the less privileged in the Society.
“I did not intend going out today as I had wanted to use the day to reflect on a number of things including appraising my commitment to God and service to humanity so far, but one of my aides reminded me that there was a Church that gave me a customized Bible sometime before now and has invited me for their Father’s Day Celebration. That made me change my mind and decided that if I must go out today, then it must be to Christ The King Catholic Church, World Bank Housing Estate, here in Umuahia, even if for no other reason, for the sake of the customized Bible I was once given by this parish, a gift which is indeed helping me to improve on a whole lot of things.
“I want to appreciate the Church and reaffirm my commitment to give hope to the hopeless,” he said.
The Speaker thereafter made a handsome monetary donation to the parish in support of procurement of an Evangelical Bus for the parish.
The Women of the parish on their part also presented an appreciation award to the Speaker for his empowerement of Abia youth and continuous support to Christ the King Catholic Church, World Bank, Umuahia
