Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Nigerian lawmaker, who is the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission, has stepped down from the investigation.
Tunji-Ojo recused himself on Monday as the panel was beginning the continuation of the public hearing on the activities of the commission.
The panel was created to interrogate Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Daniel Pondei, today.
Recall that Pondei had on Thursday questioned the credibility of the House Committee, saying Tunji-Ojo was corrupt and had benefited from award of contracts in the commission.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives have begun the grilling of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, and Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Daniel Pondei.
The Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission started with the commission’s Acting MD.
This is coming despite the announcement of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Chairman of the House Committee on NDDC, who stepped down from the investigation.
Thomas Ereyi-Tobi, Deputy Chairman of the committee, is presiding over the hearing.
In his defence, Pondei denied the claim that the commission spent N81.5bn in four months.
Pro and anti-Akpabio protesters are protesting at the National Assembly Complex as the investigations get underway. The anti-Akpabio protesters called for the arrest and prosecution of Akpabio.
