Breaking: Ikpeazu Removes Chairman Board Of Internal Revenue

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has approved the appointment of Mr Celestine Boyle Ahaoma Agbara as Acting Chairman, Abia State Board of Internal Revenue (BIR). The appointment takes immediate effect according to a statement signed by Elder O.C Aguwa Permanent Secretary Government House Umuahia.

No reason was given for the removal of the outgoing chairman, Chief Ude Ogbonna, however, sources said it might not be unconnected with the governor’s desire to rejig the revenue agency and block leakages through which money are diverted to private pockets.

Earlier the governor had removed the revenue consultants hired to help drive the revenue generation in the state which has remained static over the years despite the availability of Aba and Umuahia the two main towns in the state. There has been report of revenue cabals in the state undermining revenue generation and by extension the administration of Dr Ikpeazu, which is owing backlog of workers’ salaries.
