…says he will champion fight for free education
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan on Thursday sworn-in a former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, as a senator.
Okorocha was not inaugurated on Tuesday because he had yet to collect his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission. The former governor will represent the Imo West Senatorial District at the red chamber.
After his inauguration by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, Okorocha told reporters that he was in the Senate to champion three issues dear to his heart.
Okorocha listed working to bridge the political gap between the South East and other geo-political zones as one of his priority.
He said that his second mission would be to see the possibility of making free education a reality in the country, while his third mission would be to work with his colleagues to bring to an end the killings in the North East and Zamfara State.
The Imo West senator said that he is passionate to rebuild the political bridge between the Igbo and other parts of the country.
According to him, the Igbo are neither here nor there in the political equation of the country.
On his swearing-in he said, “I am finally here after all the long journey I had to go through before I was sworn-in today. I was the only one sworn-in today because circumstance beyond my control did not allow me to be sworn-in.
“I thank God that I have been sworn-in. I am basically here to do things dear to my heart. I will be prepared to work with my colleagues to see what we can do with the executive for the progress of the country.
“I thank the judiciary for making it possible for me to be sworn-in. I thank INEC for releasing my certificate of return.”
Okorocha said that the allegation that he was declared winner of the Imo West Senatorial election under duress was unfounded.
He said that INEC became judge in their own matter against the rule of law.
On power sharing in the country he noted that “power is never give but taken.”
For him, what is important is that power should go to somebody that has something to offer.
