Ahead of the August 16, 2025 bye-election in Anambra South Senatorial District to select a replacement for the late Senator Ifeanyi Uba, vice president general (Anambra South) of the Anambra Union in Aba, Chief Alphonsus Udeigbo has called on the people to queue behind Dr Ebuka Onunkwo, one of the leading aspirants on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.
This is as he appealed to both APGA delegates and voters to support someone, who prioritizes the general interests and wellbeing of the masses in all that his activities.
Chief Udeigbo maintained that the time has come for the people to rise above party differences, and or affiliations to support someone, who will deliver on the mandate of the people.
The vice president of the 178 strong Anambra state town union in the commercial nerve centre of Abia state, noted that his call for people to support the ambition of Dr Onunkwo to represent the Anambra South at the red Chamber of the National Assembly is premised on his deep knowledge of the aspirant as a good man with unparalleled empathy for the people, particularly the less privileged and vulnerable in the society.
In a statement issued on Monday June 30th, 2025 Sir Udeigbo, assured the people of a solid and fruitful representation in the Senate,nas well as the protection and promotion of their interests and wellbeing going by Onunkwo’s known lifestyle in caring for the people.
According to him, Onunkwo’s mission to the National Assembly will be to pursue only those things that will enhance the value of the lives of the people of Ndi Anambra South.
Chief Udeigbo, who holds the traditional title of “Kpankpando of Ihembosi” added that as a private individual Dr Onunkwo has for many years engaged in activities and programmes that seek to uplift and improve the living conditions of the people.
This is as he assured that if elected as a Senator, Dr Onunkwo will be upscaling the philanthropic gestures, as well as widening the scope of community service to the good people of Anambra South.
“As the delegates of APGA prepare to nominate the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Anambra South senatorial by-election I am appealing to them and Ndi Anambra South to support the aspirations of Dr Onunkwo because of his proven records of honesty, integrity, humanitarian services and philanthropy”.
The party delegates and electorate should consider someone who will be going to the National Assembly not because of what he will gain personally, but for what he can do for the people.
Like in the case of Abia state where Governor Alex Chioma Otti left his comfort zone in the banking industry to offer help to the good, but suffering people of Abia state, I strongly have the conviction that Dr Onunkwo is coming from the comfort of his private entrepreneurial efforts to serve the people of Anambra South.
His mission to the Anambra Senatorial seat is purely driven by the burning desire to serve and uplift the fortunes of the people.
As a private person I am aware that he has empowered several people, groups and communities through educational scholarship, skill acquisition for both the youth and women as well as generous assistance to other less privileged and vulnerable in the society.
Having done so much as a private person there is no doubt that if elected to the National Assembly Dr Onunkwo will be leveraging the position to scale up his people-oriented projects and activities,” Chief Udeigbo submitted.
Further speaking ,Sir Udeigbo expressed confidence that as a true and committed son of Anambra South Dr Onunkwo will be intentional in his quest at impacting the lives of the people through the unconditional provision of infrastructural facilities, and delivery of essential services.
Similarly, Chief Udeigbo emphasized the imperatives of Ndi Anambra South supporting the ambition of Onunkwo for the purpose of having a strong representation at the Senate.
He expressed optimism that the APGA aspirant will always draw from his overflowing reservoir of knowledge and experience to let the voices, feelings and aspirations of the people heard loud and clear at the red chamber of the National Assembly.
“Onunkwo is somebody that will not only make political statements but is imbued with the capacity and rich antecedents to truly deliver to the good people of Anambra South.
I’m therefore using this opportunity to call on Ndi Anambra South to solidly identify with this struggle to offer our people quality representation at the National Assembly,” Sir Udeigbo enjoined.
