It has come to the Notice of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO, Abia State that there is a plan to inaugurate the Aba Township Bus Union today Thursday 26th June, 2025 at the Aba Main Park.
There are three transport unions in Abia namely the NARTO, RETEAN and Cooperative Unions which must be involved in the nomination of members to represent them in this Union, hence anything to the contrary is null and void and can’t work.
Let it be said that NARTO has asked that a meeting of the three transport unions be scheduled to enable us harmonize our lists and the sharing method, which was never done only for us to be told that the inauguration is going to take place today.
The NARTO objects to this inauguration and has made its position clear that it will not participate nor be part of any such arrangements that purports to inaugurate the Aba Township Bus Union today. We cannot inaugurate a union; we don’t know its composition and or how the members were nominated.
It is our belief that any such inauguration should be directed by the office of the Commissioner for Transport, which is the supervising ministry and not by any individual.
That NARTO is taken aback by this act of impunity and hereby states that it is not part of it. Therefore, any member who goes against this instruction shall have himself to be blamed.
