The leadership of Isingwu Federated Welfare Union on Monday 26th May, 2025 paid a scheduled visit to the executive chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area, LGA, Hon Chief Smart Iheoma at his office.
This is the first visit of the Isingwu Federated Welfare Union to the Mayor of Umuahia North since his election and swearing in, over six months ago.
Associate Prof Dr Nwabueze Anosike, the Secretary General of IFWU, who spoke on behalf of the President General Elder Onyenjoro Igwe, said the leadership of Isingwu decided to come and congratulate him on his election, and to also express their support for his leadership of Umuahia North.
He said that in politics there are political linings, adding that however, after the election the winner becomes the father of all Umuahia North residents regardless of party affiliations.
Dr Anosike enjoined the Mayor to work for the good of the people of Umuahia North LGA, and to ensure they are secured as the Chief security officer of the LGA.
The Mayor in his response thanked the leadership of Isingwu for coming, saying that he feels that political interests were behind the long delay in the visit.
He pointed out that blood is thicker than water, maintaining that election is over and that he is holding the mandate of the people of Umuahia North with a promise to use the office for the benefits of Isingwu and Umuahia North LGA.
Hon Iheoma said this is a new beginning for the people of Isingwu, adding that their coming is well appreciated. He promised to do something about some of the concerns raised by the body especially on security, erosion menace, opening of rural access roads and the indiscriminate grazing and rearing of cows in Ohuhu land by herdsmen.
The executive chairman of Umuahia North stressed that already the Umuahia North LGA in partnership with the State government has done a lot in terms of youth empowerment, and will do more in the coming days and months to help the youths to become self sufficient and economically stable.
He also used the opportunity to highlight some of his achievements and steps being taken to ensure that Umuahia North remains peaceful, and attractive to investors and business people.
The Mayor praised Abia State governor Dr Alex Otti for leading by example, and said that all Abians of good conscience must support the governor’s programmes to remake Abia State.
