Former minister of state for Science and Technology and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Henry Ikoh has said that although it’s still early to begin to mobilize or canvass for political support for the 2027 General Election, he however, insisted that as someone who has attempted to govern Abia State in the past that he is ready to take the bull by the horns if the opportunity presents itself again.
The former minister made this known weekend at his country home Oboro in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, when he hosted the APC members and supporters to an Easter party. He said that he decided to celebrate the Easter holiday with political associates, friends and APC faithful in a bid to give them a sense of belonging and unity as members of the ruling party.
Chief Ikoh said that every politics is local, hence the need to always carry along the grassroots, who are the major deciding factor in any electoral contest, adding that it’s good to interact and rejoice with them even as they pray to God, who has brought them thus far to perfect His will concerning their lives and in Abia State.
‘’What I’m doing here today is not really an empowerment in the real sense of the word, rather we’re celebrating the Easter period which is a season of peace, love and unity. This is why I invited my party men and women as well as friends to come and rejoice with me today because Jesus Christ has risen’’.
When asked his view about the various pro groups carrying placards with inscriptions like ‘Henry Ikoh for Gov 2027’ urging him to throw his hat into the ring for the Abia coveted governorship seat, the Chairman of the Governing Board of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, stressed that as much as the individuals have the right to express their opinions or drum support for the candidate of their choice, he however feel that it’s a bit early to begin real politicking ahead of 2027.
He emphasized that he believes that when we get to the bridge we cross it’’, adding that he strongly maintains that as a politician who has tried to govern Abia in the past, he would not shy away when the opportunity presents itself again but will take the bull by the horns.
Chief Ikoh said he used the opportunity to interact with APC faithful and to encourage them to continue to remain committed to the party and to President Bola Tinubu’s programmes. He urged them to be resolute and work assiduously for the party, assuring them that Tinubu will be reelected, while APC will take over Abia State come 2027.
