The Abia State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has conducted its party primaries for the November 2nd Local Government Poll in Abia State, with Hon Engr Echebiri Chikaodi emerging the party’s candidate for the Chairmanship of Umuahia North LGA.
Also, Mrs Edith Ajokwuonu Chima won the ticket for the councilor of Isingwu Ward in the election to be conducted by the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC.
Hon Chikaodi Echebiri is one of the chieftains of the PDP in Isingwu Ward, Ohuhu and has been a devoted and committed member of the party, contributing to Its electoral successes in the past.
His emergence is seen as a good development for the PDP , especially now that the party is trying to rediscover itself to return to its winning streaks.
In a chat with newsmen after his emergence, Chikaodi Echebiri said he is one of the committed party members who believe in the ideals of the PDP, the reason he has remained with the party since Its formation. “I don’t believe in jumping from one political party to the other because I am not that type of politician, he stressed.
Speaking on ABSIEC preparedness to deliver a credible and transparent LGA elections, the PDP candidate for Umuahia North Chairmanship, said “we are very hopeful that Gov Alex Otti will honour his words to conduct a free and fair election.
He added that if the PDP has no confidence in the electoral process the party wouldn’t be in the race in the first instance. “So, we know how Gov Otti came to power and we are confident that he will give us a level playing field”.
Hon Chikaodi Echebiri is a native of Umuda Okpuala in Okpu Isingwu autonomous community. The Umuahia North Chairmanship contest is going to be a direct fight between the PDP candidate and the Labour Party candidate. Giving the discontent in the Labour Party at the moment, analyst said that in a free and fair contest it could go either way.
