The leading candidate in the race for the chairmanship seat of Umuahia North Local Government Area, LGA, on the platform of the ruling Labour Party, LP, in the November 2nd 2024 Abia State Council Poll, Chief (Dr) Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia is receiving widespread support in his quest to be elected the next executive chairman of Umuahia North.
NewsCritic online reports that Chief Chris Nwa-Abia’s candidature is getting massive supports from stakeholders and youth groups across Umuahia North, who are eager to have him take-over the mantle of leadership at the grassroots level.
The Labour Party Umuahia North Youth Council led by Christopher Iroanya and Ohaeri Jonah Otutu, as youth leader and secretary respectively had in a letter dated 12th September, 2024, which was addressed to His Excellency Dr Alex Otti recommended Chris Nwa-Abia for the prized Umuahia North council seat.
In the letter which was sighted by NewsCritic online the youth council stressed that they have carried out an independent assessment of all the candidates jostling for the chairmanship of Umuahia North, under the platform of Labour Party, taking into considerations their antecedents, business successes, grassroots appeal and personal efforts in rural development and empowerment, and discovered that Chris Nwa-Abia ranks very high.
They said Chris Nwa-Abia is the only candidate who can interpret the vision and mission of Governor Alex Otti at the grassroots, as well as compliment the efforts of Governor Alex Otti in bringing development to the rural areas.
The Abia youth council in Umuahia North stated that their findings revealed that Chris Nwa-Abia is the only candidate, who has shown tremendous zeal, passion and commitment by not only empowering the youths and small business owners at the grassroots with grants, but that he has been supportive of Gov Otti’s programmes, constructing many people-oriented projects in Ohuhu Umuahia which can be verified.
Also, the coalition of Pro-Youth Wing Umuahia North, and the national youth council are all on the same page in promoting and recommending the candidature of Chris Nwa-Abia to the people of Umuahia North. They are of the view that Chris Nwa-Abia is a man with a known business address, who if given the opportunity to serve at the grassroots will replicate his personal efforts at rural development through the instrumentality of good governance.
Speaking to newsmen during the flag-off of the N30m sports complex project located at Nkwoachara, Chris Nwa-Abia said the complex will consist of a basketball court, volley ball court and long tennis court, in addition to the existing mini football stadium he constructed.
He said the intention is to support the youths, use sports to keep them busy and take them off the streets. “So, when completed our youths will have something to keep them busy and occupy their time as well as use it to discover fresh talents in the rural areas. What we are trying to do is to keep them busy and take them off the streets”, the founder of the team Nwa-Abia Movement stressed.
Chris Nwa-Abia said that upon completion, the sports complex would bring about a huge transformation of the entire Nkwoachara Isingwu landscape into a modern sporting arena.
