The leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, in Abia State has said that the report on the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 General Election Ukpai Iro Ukpai defection to Labour Party, LP, with other party members is misleading, and false, adding that the structure of the NNPP in Abia is intact.
In state executive committee of the party led by Hon Prince Kelechi Apugo in a press statement issued in Umuahia the Abia State capital, said that the defection of the only Board of Trustees, BoT, member of the party to LP is his personal decision, and that he was the only turncoat.
The statement read in parts “on behalf of the Abia State Executive Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), we wish to address the recent development concerning the departure of Dr. Ukpai Iro Ukpai, the only BOT member from our party, to the Labour Party.
“We want to categorically state that Dr. Ukpai’s decision to leave NNPP is his personal choice, and he alone has defected to the Labour Party. The entire Abia State Executive Committee remains committed to NNPP, and we are intact.
“We reassure our members, supporters, and the general public that our party’s structure in Abia State remains strong and unaffected by Dr. Ukpai’s departure. We will continue to work tirelessly to grow our party and position it for future electoral success.
“We appreciate the trust and confidence our members have in us and pledge to continue upholding the principles and values of NNPP.
