The people of Umuahia North Local Government Area, LGA, Abia State have every reason to be hopeful of a better future as the prospects of Chief Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia’s Chairmanship of the capital city council begins to gain traction, like an idea whose time has come. The founder of the Team Nwa-Abia Movement, who is known for his avowed commitment to good governance and altruism could be the best thing that will happen to Umuahia North in recent history, should he be voted in as the next executive chairman of the LGA which has suffered from leadership failure in the past.
Coming from a background that is well-groomed in community development, youth empowerment and humanitarian initiatives all to his credit, Chris Nwa-Abia bears the appearance of a perfect administrator, who is on a rescue mission to salvage and transform the hitherto backward and chequered history of the Umuahia North LGA.
As a community development expert, a calling that has distinguished him from the crowd, he has initiated and executed countless number of developmental projects in the grassroots. Therefore, there is no doubt about the indisputable truth that he has a clear vision and strategy to achieve set goals that will transform Umuahia North, and make it the poster face of local government administration in Abia State in particular and Nigeria in general.
According to the Team Nwa-Abia Movement Media Office, Chris Nwa-Abia’s agenda and plan for Umuahia North is in line with the overall objectives of the TNM, which revolves around service delivery and selflessness to the society. As a strong advocate of responsive and transparent leadership at all levels of governance in the nation, “Chris Nwa-Abia will have little or no challenge in the continuation of his community development activities which has become his trademark, and in ensuring that all the nooks and crannies of the council area feel the positive impact of his administration”.
The Media Office stated that as a candidate who understands the needs, concerns and demographics of the locality, his agenda is tailored towards meeting the specific needs of the residents, with emphasis on solutions to local problems, such as infrastructure development, health care and community services.
“Chris Nwa-Abia has demonstrated pragmatism, integrity and leadership by example, as well as shown his dedication to the community’s well-being such that his election to the office of the executive Chairman Umuahia North should ordinarily be a walkover of sorts if his achievements are anything to reckon with.
His transformation agenda encapsulates the following:
- Improvement of Infrastructure: One of the key areas that will receive adequate attention is infrastructure with focus on roads, water supply and electricity to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Umuahia North LGA.
- Enhance health care services: Health care facilities will be upgraded and more medical staff deployed to cater for the growing health needs of the rural populace. Also ensure that the people in the grassroots have easy access to health care. More community health programs will be implemented.
- Promote Education: like he has done and is still doing in the education sector, there will be massive investment in the primary schools. Educational materials will be provided and also teacher development programs will be supported. Indigent students will have no reason not to go to school because scholarships and educational grants will be made available.
- Encourage Economic growth: We will encourage economic growth and entrepreneurship, support small businesses and attract investments to the LGA. The possibility of establishing Agric businesses in the wards will be pursued and realised.
- Ensure transparency and accountability: This is his watch word and one of the cardinal principles of the administration that the leadership will guarantee. That is to implement open governance practices, engage with citizens and report regularly on progress.
The fact remains that Chris Nwa-Abia is an idea whose time has come. Therefore, the people of Umuahia North are respectfully enjoined to make the decision to enthrone competence, capacity and integrity in the leadership of the LGA, and here Chris Nwa-Abia towers in all the indicators.
