Abia PDP Passes Vote Of Confidence On Alwell Okere As Court Halts Conduct Of Its State Congresses

The State Working Committee, SWC of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abia State has unanimously passed a confidence vote on the party’s Chairman Rt Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere in affirmation of his leadership of the party.

This is coming on the heels of the postponement of the party’s congresses in Abia State by the national leadership of the party following an order of the court.

A communique issued by the party and signed by the Vice Chairman/ Ag State Publicity Secretary, Elder Amah Abraham said the SWC held an emergency meeting on July 26, 2024 to discuss current developments affecting the party and the forthcoming PDP congresses and resolved as follows:

1.  Passed a vote of confidence on the state Chairman of the PDP, Rt.  Hon. Dr. Alwell Asiforo Okere.

2.  The party reaffirms its readiness and commitment to free and fair congresses.

3.  Calls on party members to remain resolute and commit themselves to promote the ideals and integrity of the party. 

4.  Reaffirms the party’s commitment to the respect and advancement of good governance.

5.  The party commits itself to the support and defense of the rule of law always.

6.  Promote the best ideals of a shadow government by the continuously holding the Alex Otti-led administration accountable, and ensure that it is open and transparent in the conduct of Abia government’s business. 

7.  The SWC trusts the ability of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party to conduct credible free and fair congresses across the states and FCT.

8.  Appreciates the National Working Committee, NWC’s decision to postpone the ward congresses due to operational reasons, and we will not hesitate to inform our members as soon as new dates are communicated to INEC.
