The proverbial golden fish that has no hiding place appears to have derived its deep meaning on Chief (Dr) Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia, the founder of the Team Nwa-Abia Movement, who is being called upon by Ohuhu Concerned Citizens and stakeholders to throw his hat into the ring, in the contest for the executive chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area, LGA, of Abia State.
Chief Chris Nwa-Abia, the Ohuhu born entrepreneur and philanthropist is reputable in Umuahia North and beyond due to his unquenchable appetite and hunger for community developments, youth empowerment and humanitarian activities, a passion that has distinguished him from the rest.
With the prospects of conducting the LGA elections high and around the corner, following the apex court ruling declaring the caretaker committees illegal and granting autonomy to the 774 LGAs in the country, the push for the elections have gained momentum within states run by transition committees.
In Abia State, Governor Alex Otti has announced plans to conduct LGA election to replace the Mayors of the 17 LGAs of Abia State. This move has raised the stakes at the LGA level, as groups and stakeholders begin to seek qualified candidates to join the race, and offer themselves for the election.
For Chris Nwa-Abia, a man with immense ability and capacity for community and human development, it’s time to step out to answer the clarion calls of the noble men of Ohuhu, who believe in his leadership abilities, and therefore want him to lead the Umuahia North LGA.
For instance, Hon Bonaventure Ofoegbu, a former senior special assistant to former Gov Okezie Ikpeazu, and one of Ofeme’s prominent stakeholders, wrote an emotional message to Chris Nwa-Abia appealing to him to consider running for the Umuahia North LGA elections.
In the letter which was personally signed by him, Hon Ofoegbu thanked Nwa-Abia for the “wonderful work he has done in our communities”, adding that his commitment to building people and providing essential amenities has impacted positively on so many lives, including his.
He said that through individual efforts, Nwa-Abia has created opportunities for people to flourish and earn a decent living, and has shown want it means to live a life of purpose and meaning”.
Continuing Ofoegbu said “I know we can achieve even greater things with your continued leadership and support, describing Chris Nwa-Abia as inspiring and also touched by his generosity and kindness.
“Thank you again for all that you have done, and for being a beacon of hope to so many hitherto hapless people. I must say that you are truly a hero in our community.
“Please consider the option of vying for the office of the Chairman Umuahia North LGA, it’s Umuhu turn and with you it will not elude us”.
It’s not only Hon Ofoegbu and his group at Ofeme that are requesting for Nwa-Abia to contest in the forthcoming LGA polls, the Isingwu Political Forum and Ohuhu Solidarity Front are all in the same page on the calls to draft him into the race given his antecedent in grassroots development.
They insist that the rotation arrangement in Umuahia North favours Umuhu bloc in Ohuhu to produce the next executive chairman of the council, and that no candidate could do the job better than Nwa-Abia at this time of our national life. This assertion was given voice by Apostle Chuks Alozie, who maintained that it’s the Umuhu bloc that will occupy the next chairmanship seat, saying there’s no controversy about this.
All eyes and hopes are now on Chief Chris Nwa-Abia who holds the traditional title of Ihie Umuahia and Omeroha Isingwu to honour the calls and declare interest in the race.
