Encomiums, garlands and witty birthday messages are flowing the way of the celebrated former Abia State Commissioner Ministry of Finance, Dr Aham Uko, as he marks his birthday anniversary today 15th July, 2024.
Dr Aham Uko, also dubbed Mr ‘Integrity’ due to his widely acknowledged moral high ground and candour in public service is a recipient of ‘The Exemplary Public Service Award’ by Umuda Okpuala Okpu-Isingwu Autonomous Community in Umuahia North Local Government Area, LGA, of Abia State.
The award was a fitting recognition to Dr Aham Uko’s exemplary conduct in the service of Abia State, both as commissioner for environment and finance, during which period he distinguished himself in an exceptional way. He is also a recipient of several other achievers’ awards, including the Ohuhu Solidarity Forum, OSF, Philanthropic Award.
Aham Uko, PhD, is not the usual run-of-the-mill kind of Abia politician, who believes in flagrant bootlicking, sycophancy and places both above performance and service delivery, as a means of gaining political favour.
The former commissioner of finance is deserving of all the encomiums and honour he is receiving because he has made a great mark in Abia history, and would always be remembered for his doggedness on regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions during his commissionership.
His life as a public servant and philanthropist are interwoven, and in both he demonstrates great passion for human development gestures. He is a symbol of impact, influence and excellence, and has remained a shinning light not only in Ohuhu, but in Abia State political ecosystem.
Aham Uko is a man who always stands in defense of his convictions, and in defense of justice and equity. He had reasons to voluntarily resigned from office as commissioner for finance, when he couldn’t agree with the State’s leadership on some issues that had to do with the workers welfare in one hand, and the rotation of Umuahia/Ikwuano House of Representatives seat in the other.
In the later he provided strong support to the Labour Party, LP, candidate during the election, Hon Sir Obi Aguocha to beat highly favoured Rt Hon Chinedum Orji of the Ikuku fame.
In one of the congratulatory messages to Dr Uko in celebration of his birthday today, one of Ohuhu’s notable sons Ariwa Zuby wrote, “Dee Aham, I’ve come to share one of your best moments with you on this auspicious occasion of your birthday.
“One of leading lights of the great Ohuhu clan. Old money, clean and fresh to the core. Jolly, jovial, smart and ever smiling!
“A strong motivator, who possesses the trickery of talking you into achieving the impossibility.
“I met you the first time in your spatial palatial edifice at Old GRA Port Harcourt around 2014 or thereabout.
A man of timber, caliber and many parts.
A socialite generalissimo! Congrats, Sir Dr Aham Uko. More of you in good health!
Interestingly, Aham Uko shares the same birthday with great personalities like Chief Nduka Obiaegbena, the publisher of ThisDay Newspapers and founder Arise News International, who is also celebrating his birthday today.
For Aham Uko, Ohuhu celebrates you today and always…happy birthday to one of Ohuhu’s best and brightest!
