The Village Head of Umuoriehi Isingwu Elder Uzo Madubuike and his siblings have built and donated a water borehole project to the people of Umuoriehi to help alleviate the problem of water scarcity facing the village.
Speaking at the official commissioning and hand over of the borehole to the village on Saturday 25th May, 2024, Elder Uzo Madubuike said that himself and his siblings decided to build a borehole for the villagers to help ease the problem of water scarcity in the village.
He disclosed that his family had before now awarded scholarships and paid West African Examination Council, WAEC, registration fees for many secondary school students in the community to help parents shoulder the burden of registration.
Elder Uzo Madubuike pointed out that in line with Governor Alex Otti’s light up Umuahia project, that in no distant time his family is planning to install solar powered street lights in various angles and locations in the village, so that people can move about freely even at night without fear.
He said he wants to ensure that Umuoriehi does not lag behind in development, while he urged other well-meaning sons and daughters of Umuoriehi to contribute their own quota towards the development of the community, and not to become armchair critics who would never see anything good in the efforts other individuals are making to build the village.
Speaking about his office as the Village, he said it has not been easy because some individuals don’t want to see the truth, adding that it will not deter them from assisting the community in any way possible. Uzo Madubuike called on the villagers to come together for the good of their community because they don’t have any other place.
Mr Okeaghialam Isiuwa, the President General of the community warned those fomenting trouble in the village to stay clear because the community has crowned a village head. He said that it is not the responsibility of the traditional ruler to select a village head for a community but the village, adding that the problem in Umuoriehi today is caused by the traditional ruler. “Look at the borehole project we want progress. We appeal to our brothers to emulate same.
Hon Efughi Ogbonna the Deputy Majority Leader Umuahia North Legislative Council commended Uzo Madubuike and his brothers for their love for the community, and for coming to solve the perennial water problem in the village. “Today one family headed by the village head and his brothers came to alleviate the suffering of the people in terms of drinking water by installing a borehole at the Methodist Church and then run it outside for the public use. This project is a welcome one because it is an individual project. Other people should come up to do this kind of thing, Hon Ogbonna remarks.
