Former Abia State First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs Mercy Odochi Orji has resigned her membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, thereby worsening the woes of the party which has been hit by a wave of defections in recent weeks.
According to her resignation letter addressed to the chairman PDP Urban Ward 1, Umuahia which was sighted by this reporter, she said “I write to formally resign as a member of the PDP with effect from this 21st day of May, 2024 for personal reasons”.
Her Excellency Mrs Mercy Odochi Orji also thanked the PDP for “your support during my tenure as the First Lady of Abia, and until date a strong supporter of the party. The resignation letter was copied to the PDP Chairman Abia State and the acting national chairman of the PDP, Abuja.
The resignation of the former Abia First Lady is coming on the heels of the recent PDP stakeholders meeting in Umuahia, wherein the former governor Okezie Ikpeazu scorned defectors, describing them as feather weights. Former First Lady HE Mrs Mercy Orji Resigns From PDP
