Former house of representatives candidate for Umuahia-Ikwuano federal constituency under the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Prince Obinna Nwosu, has swelled the ranks of Abia politicians who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, with his defection to the party today Wednesday May 8, 2024 at his Umukabia Nkwoegwu ward.
Prince Obinna Nwosu who prides himself as the youngest House of Representatives candidate in the 2023 General Election, also said that he is collapsing the ADC structure in the constituency into the APC to give the party more traction.
While declaring for the APC in the presence of the LGA Chairman of the party in Umuahia North, chief Iheanyi Ekwuruibe, the Ward Chairman Hon Onyebuchi Igodo, Hon Aguocha Chinecherem and stakeholders of the party in Nkwoegwu ward; Hon Obinna Nwosu asserted that Nigeria is in a transition stage now that requires the best minds to work in synergy with the central government to bring about development.
He stressed that he is coming with the mindset that if the federal government can be given the necessary support a lot can be achieved and the country would become more prosperous.
“This is why I’m making this move with members of my former party, and I urge our youths in the South East to align with the centre to ensure that the dividends of this democracy touch down to our people. Under this APC government Abia produced the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Minister of Labour and Employment.
“So, this is a party that is determined to carry along our people, so let’s get on board to play a significant role, and I encourage our young ones to embrace the party at the centre, and from my experience we need to get more young people to be actively involved in politics, he reasons.
Speaking to journalists the ward chairman of the APC in Nkwoegwu Hon Onyebuchi Igodo, expressed happiness with the defection of Obinna Nwosu, describing him as a big fish. He said that APC is now the party of choice, saying that many party chieftains in Abia defected to the party en masse which is good, according to him.
The highpoint of the event was his registration as a member of the APC at Nkwoegwu ward following which he was issued with the APC membership card, and the symbolic broom by the LGA Chairman who received him into the party.
