Abia Makes History As Tinubu Commissions Geometric Power Project

History will be made on Monday 26 February, 2024 when President Bola Tinubu will commission the Geometric Power Project that has the capacity to provide 24/7 electricity to businesses, industries and residents of Aba metropolis made up of nine local government areas.

Geometric Power is the first private power company in Nigeria built by Prof Barth Nnaji former minister of power. The project started in 2004 and has been on in the past 20 years.

NewsCritic online reports that Abia State and Gov Alex Otti is trending because on the 26th of February, Aba will become the first city in Nigeria to have 24/7 power supply. 

Geometric Power will commission the 141MW Aba Integrated Power Plant and Aba IPP will hit 188MW post-commissioning. It is a private investment led by Bart Nnaji, with credit to Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. 

Prof Bart Nnaji is a globally respected academic engineer in the United States, who has been Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology and later Minister of Power, disclosed that he chose to site Geometric Power in Aba to catalyse Aba’s development as the headquarters of indigenous technology and manufacturing.

He noted that with “constant, quality and affordable electricity soon, the cost of doing business in Abia State will reduce significantly and this will, in turn, impact on the national economy.” 

The chairman also appreciated Abia Governor Dr Alex Otti for his support right from the outset of the project.
