A stakeholder of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State, Aguocha Chinecherem Jerry, has threatened to quit the party should the leadership of the party in the state fail to address the injustice being meted to those who worked, and delivered the party in their various units during the 2023 General Election.
Aguocha Chinecherem Jerry, who admitted that he was a member of the Abia Rejoice the Dr Uche Ogah campaign organisation, but had to join Chief Ikechi Emenike when he emerged the party’s governorship candidate as a good party man, wondered why despite producing the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Minister of the federal republic, the Abia APC has remained largely disunited.
The APC chieftain who spoke to journalists in Umuahia the Abia State capital weekend, said the APC in Abia is divided, and party leaders are working at cross purposes thereby making the party vulnerable and without cohesion.
Aguocha Jerry stressed that strangers have hijacked the party and the party men who worked and sacrificed a lot for the party in Abia are being side-lined, saying that this situation is unacceptable that outsiders should be the ones benefitting from the party at the moment.
Said Aguocha “if at the end of the day the party’s leadership fail to listen to us because I can’t be working and others are being empowered and rewarded for doing nothing, I may have no other option than to quit the party.
“There are people who have been made special assistants to Deputy Speaker, and the minister Rt Hon Nkiru Onyejiocha is also working with some people. There are some slots of appointment that should be reserved for those who project the image of the party, others are being paid certain amount of money every month and they are not at the frontlines. How can you empower people who are not working for the party, he queried?
“Some of them sabotaged the party during the election, my unit gave President Bola Tinubu highest number of votes and I know what I am saying. Tell those masquerading themselves now to produce their results…This is a party that has a deputy speaker of the house of Representatives and minister from the state, so how can the party be like this…?
He maintained that the APC should carry along the interests of those who worked and stood by the party to forestall the possibility of widespread discontent in the party, which according to him will not augur well for the interest of the party in Abia State.
