Mayor Victor Ikeji Visits Ofeme Central School Following Fire Incident, Cautions Against Reckless Bush Burning 

The Mayor of Umuahia North LGA, Hon. High-Chief Victor Ikeji (Kpakpando Umuahia), early Monday morning of 5th February 2024, visited the Ofeme Community Central School, Umunkpu, Ofeme that was gutted by fire over the weekend.

The Umuahia Council boss was in the school to have an on the spot assessment of the level of the fire damage on the school as well as the remote cause of the fire outbreak that destroyed the school.

The head mistress of the school, Mrs Nkiru Izuagha, who received the Mayor and his team, narrated that the fire outbreak that destroyed the school was caused by indiscriminate bush burning from the surrounding farmland around the school.

She said two building blocks housing the classrooms of the pupils of the schools was burnt. She added that the fire also destroyed chairs, tables, and office stationaries within the school. 

The Mayor sympathized with the pupil and the school management, as he assured them that the government would come to their aide by ensuring the school is fixed.

The Mayor however warned those who are in the habit of setting farmland ablaze to desist from such acts, as these has clearly shown to be destructive. 

The Umuahia Council boss was accompanied on the inspection by a prominent son of Ofeme, Prince Tony Eze.
