Different religious bodies are holding vigil and praying for the immediate release of Prof Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of Abia State University Uturu, who was kidnapped by gunmen in Umuahia two days ago.
Prof Emezue is a devote Christian and in the leadership of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship Ministry. His abduction has thrown the Umuahia and ABSU community into confusion, while the Police confirmed the incident but failed to provide further details on efforts being made to rescue him from his captors.
While the prayers are ongoing the BringbackProfEmezue campaign has been launched with the Police being called upon to hasten action and efforts to rescue the Prof. “The situation is alarming, and we urgently call on the security agencies to intervene and expedite efforts in rescuing him. Our thoughts are with Prof. Emezue and his family during this distressing time. We implore all relevant authorities to collaborate swiftly and ensure the safe return of the esteemed academician, said a member of the community.
NewsCritic online reports that some unidentified gunmen abducted the ABSU DVC at a gas station along Amachara- Umuekwule road in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State. He was said to be driving with his wife when the sad incident occurred.
According to eye witnesses account, Prof Emezue was whisked away by no fewer than three men that accosted him at the fuel station, dragged him into an awaiting Lexus SUV and collected his wife’s ATM card before speeding off.
