Perhaps, in a move perceived by not a few as signposting the celebration of its anticipated triumph in the much awaited Supreme Court verdict on the legal battle for the Kano State seat of power, APC Stalwarts have flooded the commercial hub of Northern region with a myriad of souvenirs and memorabilia, echoing the colours, logos and all known insignias of the party and its gubernatorial candidate.
This is even as most of the party’s offices across the state have been given a new look, just within days to the decisive ruling.
Newscritic online reports that the country’s apex court is set to give its ruling on an appealed filed by Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf challenging the nullification of his victory at the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial polls by both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court.
One of the top kano APC leaders behind the procurement and distribution of the party’s souvenirs, Hon Seyi Olorunsola explained that the gesture is primarily aimed at galvanizing party members to rally round its gubernatorial flagbearer ahead of the Supreme Court verdict.
Radiating great optimism, the prominent leader of the Yoruba Community in Kano maintained that the overwhelming majority of Kano residents are eagerly awaiting the supreme court to further affirm their mandates as freely given on March18, 2023.
“We are optimistic that the final judgment will unequivocally uphold the mandate of the people, and result in the installation of Dr Nasiru Gawuna as the authentic governor of Kano state,” Hon Olorunsola noted in a press statement on Sunday January 7, 2024.
According to him, victory for APC at the apex court is not only imminent, but also a necessary step towards upholding the sanctity of democratic principles, and the supremacy of the will of the electorate.
NewsCritic online reports that while the huge presence of the APC souvenirs, refurbishment of most of its offices and the open display of excitement among many of its members appear to be eliciting palpable apprehension, and anxiety from the opposing NNPP’s camp, its top hierarchy have continued to expressed their confidence in the abilities of the Supreme Court to dispense justice.
Instructively, in the last few days, leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, the off-shoot of the NNPP, former Gov Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have severally called for calm on the part of members, insisting that going by the strong nature of its appeal victory is assured.
