The over 100 secondary school students whose West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, registration is being sponsored by Chief (Dr) Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia have expressed their gratitude to their benefactor for the kind gesture and for shouldering the responsibility of their parents. They said such individuals are hard to find in the society today and prayed God to protect Chris Nwa-Abia, who is the founder of the Team Nwa-Abia Movement.
Some of the jubilant students spoke Thursday 4 January, 2024 at the Umuda Okorocha Civic Hall, after the physical verification exercise of all the shortlisted students, who are to benefit from the Chief Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia free WAEC registration in Ohuhu.
Master Ifeanyichukwu Delight from Umuawa Alaocha and Onyekanwereaku Chidera of Ohiya Secondary school, praised Chris Nwa-Abia for the gesture, while praying God to bless him for his efforts to help humanity and indigent students. “I feel excited and happy’, said Delight. While Chidera said she is glad because it’s really hard to find someone who will perform the responsibilities of parents nowadays.
The PRO of Ohuhu Welfare Union Youths Wing, Hon Barr FOC Nwokocha, said that students from all the nine public schools in Ohuhu are among the beneficiaries, adding that the registration is limited to only students in public schools. He said that Chris Nwa-Abia wants to promoted public schools and make it attractive to parents and guardians.
“He wants to promote government schools, so he decided to start from Ohuhu first. He will also extend it to other parts of the Umuahia North LGA, in order to see how he can make government schools attractive.
The WAEC sponsorship is for indigent students and the less privileged who can’t afford the registration fees. This is not the first time Chris Nwa-Abia is sponsoring the registration of students for WAEC exam, as this has become a yearly ritual, which he performs through the Ohuhu Welfare Union Youth Wing.
