As the political temperature of kano State continue to rise ahead of the forthcoming Supreme court verdict on the gubernatorial tussle in the state, the Police authorities have declared 72 identified thugs wanted.
The wanted individuals considered to constitute high profile threat to the peace and security of the state are to be smoked out at all cost, according to the Police.
The state commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Usaini Gumel, who disclosed this at a press briefing on Friday December 22, 2023 at the command headquarters in Bompai area of the metropolis appealed to all security agencies, vigilante groups and all relevant stakeholders to assist the Police in smoking out the wanted individuals from their hide outs, and hand them over to the police for immediate action.
According to the Police Commissioner, the 72 wanted thugs whose names were also reeled out to the public are strong enemies of the peace of kano, and they cannot be allowed to roam freely.
He stated that the criminal elements after a painstaking investigation were discovered to be the followers of a notorious brigand, Bahago Afah and were among the 662 repentant thugs that unfortunately went back to criminal activities after being granted amnesty.
“It is with consistent efforts that we were able to identify a total of 72 of these brigand’s followers of Bahago Afah, whose primary motive is to create unnecessary unrest and thereafter take advantage of the situation to attack innocent people and rob them of their valuables.
Alhaji Gumel who identified Dala and Kurna areas as the operational headquarters of the criminal gang, noted that through increased patrols and constant raiding, the Police were able to dismantle their criminal networks, adding that the police is currently intensifying its intelligence gathering efforts with a view to unmasking other ringleaders behind the upsurge in thuggery, and other related criminal activities in the state.
“Now there is no more room for repentance. We are resisting dining with the devil. They (72 wanted persons) are enemies of peace and accordingly we have declared them enemies.
This period presents a new security challenges and responsibilities and we must ensure that all citizens celebrate in an atmosphere of peace and security,” Gumel stated.
