Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State Prince B.B Apugo is in the news again, this time he is not accusing the former governor of corruption, rather he has dared the incumbent Governor Alex Otti by allegedly knocking down the ongoing security fencing project of the state secretariat, Ogurube layout that stretches over 300 metres.
The Abia State secretariat complex is currently being fenced round by the state government to secure the complex and give it a facelift. However, the project has suffered a set back following the destruction of the erected fence opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria office overlooking the Old Secretariat complex.
NewsCritic online findings revealed that the ongoing security fencing stretched from the entrance to the old secretariat complex down to the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, with undeveloped large expanse of land being fenced in the process.
Sources informed that Prince BB Apugo usually claims ownership of the plots of land at Ogurube layout, and that no transaction and or development takes place on the plots without his permission. This it was gathered could have prompted the destruction of the ongoing fencing project embarked upon by the Abia State government.
There are gossips that the action allegedly taken by Prince BB Apugo in destroying the security fences signposts the beginning of a frosty relationship between Apugo and Gov Alex Otti, who hitherto were close political associates.
Unconfirmed sources hinted that their relationship is going awry as a result of Gov Otti’s refusal to grants some of Apugo’s demands on the governor. One of such demands this reporter was told has to do with the desire of Apugo to have one of his sons appointed General Manager of the Abia State Estate Development Agency, ABSEDA, which could not happen.
Again, Apugo was also said to have lobbied for another of his son to be appointed the Chairman of Enyimba Football Club to no avail. NewsCritic reports that one of Apugo’s sons is into football administration and runs a football academy where young talents are discovered and sent abroad to play professional football. He is famous for discovering Samuel Chukwueze.
These are some of the developments that are said not to have gone down well with Prince Apugo, as he is also said not to be happy with the removal of the acting head of service by the state government.
The Abia State commissioner for works could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report.
