The All Progressive Congress, APC, Kano State chapter has put a liar to the growing insinuations that the presidency may have intervened in the ongoing legal tussle between it and the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, for the control of the political soul of the commercial heartbeat of the North.
In in a terse statement issued in Abuja on Sunday December 17, 2023 by the state chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbass and made available to newscritic.com.ng the party described as unfounded the purported compromise deal between president Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the NNPP to sway the much awaited supreme court judgement in favour of Gov Abba Yusuf, noting that the rumour does not represent the true situation on the ground .
Alhaji Abbass said as a true democrat, with firm believe in the supremacy of the rule of law, president Tinubu has not and does not have the intentions to interfere with the judicial process of the country, insisting that the alleged deal to compromise the judgment of the Apex court is the handiwork of the NNPP and its desperate hierarchy.
While expressing optimism about the imminent victory of the APC and its gubernatorial candidate, Dr Yusuf Gawuna, going by the strong nature of its petition as roundly vindicated by the rulings of the Tribunal and Appeal court, the APC chairman appealed to the party members and the general public to disregard the alleged compromise story and see it for actually what it is – a piece of propaganda from the NNPP mill, designed to give false hope to its ever growing disenchanted members.
“There is nowhere such a meeting held between Mr president and anybody for the purpose of subverting the upcoming supreme court judgement.
President Tinubu is a democrat, who does not believe in subverting the will of the people and or due process, and as such cannot support those who have stolen the mandate of the people,” Abbass stated.
The APC chairman further noted that there is no tension in Kano as a result of the upcoming supreme court ruling, as being propagated by the NNPP as according to him the people of kano are so far satisfied with the rulings of the earlier courts, and are eagerly waiting for that of the supreme court.
He therefore assured of a harmonious relationship among all the ethnic groups in Kano irrespective of political party affiliations.
NewsCritic online reports that the APC and its gubernatorial candidate Dr Gawuna had in the wake of the March 25 gubernatorial polls which returned Gov Yusuf of the NNPP as winner mounted a legal challenge, seeking a reversal.
The Election petition tribunal sitting in Kano and the court of Appeal had in their earlier verdicts upheld the validity of APC’s petition, thus setting the stage for the much-awaited decisive supreme court ruling.
