The Coalition Of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has called on the opposition political platforms in Abia State, particularly the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and their gubernatorial flagbearers Chief Ikechi Emenike, and Chief Okey Ahiwe respectively to stop any further distraction of the government of Dr Alex Otti of the Labour Party in the state and allow him to concentrate on the task of rebuilding Abia after 24 years of mindless devastation.
COSEYL’s advice is coming on the heels of the affirmation of the electoral victory of LP’s Otti by the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos on Saturday, December 2, 2023 thus validating an earlier ruling of an election petition tribunal which had dismissed the petitions of the opposition parties, mainly the APC and PDP.
In a release issued and signed by its President- General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem on Saturday November 2, 2023 and made available to Newscritic.com.ng the apex socio-political youth group in the SouthEast region, noted that the unprecedented shout of joy and spontaneous jubilation which heralded the Court of Appeal ruling across the state is an eloquent testimony to the fact the majority of Abians feel safe in the hands of the Otti led administration, adding that all lovers of democracy are in ecstatic mood, thanking God for liberating Abia from years of servitude and exploitation.
“Gov Otti has brought transformational leadership, accelerated development and a general breath of fresh air in Abia State, and nothing should be done to take Abians back to the years of the locust.
God has used him, Gov Otti to wipe away the tears from the people, and so far, he has justified the confidence reposed in him by embarking on the execution of people-oriented policies and programmes in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
In a democratic setting, the power to choose leaders reside in the people, and the people loudly spoke on March 25, 2023 when they overwhelmingly voted LP’s Dr Otti as their governor.
It is our strong view that any move by anyone against Gov Otti’s election is anti-democratic and anti-people.
We, therefore, call on all those involved in trying to truncate the popular will of the people to stop forthwith,” COSEYL appealed.
While hailing the judiciary for standing firm on the side of justice and fairness, the Youth umbrella body felicitates with the good people of Abia and Gov Otti on the court of Appeal victory.
