With the planned inauguration of appointed Mayors and Transition Chairmen for the 17 local councils of Abia state set for Thursday November 30, 2023 in Umuahia the state capital, one of the foremost traditional rulers in Ohuhu, Umuahia North, Eze Nzenwanta Mbakwe has thrown his weight behind the decision by the Governor Alex Otti led administration to elicit the services of prominent and accomplished residents in the development of the state.
This is even as he has expressed the optimism that with the capacity and commitment to work shown within the short period in office, the regime is already on the path to establishing itself as the best since the creation of the state in 1991.
The royal father who is one of the founding fathers of Abia in an exclusive interview with newscritic.com.ng in Aba on Wednesday November 29 said Gov Otti by co-opting such accomplished figures in the administration of the local councils, has demonstrated vision, commitment and sincerity of purpose in reclaiming the lost glory of Abia State.
Eze Mbakwe also appreciated the humility and a huge sense of patriotism displayed by the appointed mayors in accepting to come down to that level to serve their people.
“It is something commendable, for somebody who has seen it all to come down, accept the task of assisting in the development of his area. It is not everybody that will do that.
So, we should see the mayors and TC chairmen as patriots out to impact positively on the lives of their people even if it means coming down from their Olympian heights.
Instead of criticisms, Gov Otti should be commended for having the vision and charisma to be able to bring these men of substance on board.
To have thought out and accomplished this rare feat is a huge plus for the present administration. The whole idea, I believe is to tap the expertise, vision and even the resources of these personalities for the purpose of fast racking the development of the councils” Mbakwe noted.
He therefore charged the appointees to justify the confidence repose in them by the government and good people of Abia State.
The Uga I of Umuoso Okaiuga Nkwoegwu noted that he is not surprised at the high level of performance of Gov Otti so far, noting that as someone whom he has known and associated with for over 38 years, he is aware of his capabilities and commitment.
“If only he will be allowed to concentrate and not be distracted by needless opposition, I will not be surprised if he emerges as the best Governor of the state since creation.
If he can see through the reconstruction of the Aba- PortHarcourt Road, the task of re- asserting the economic supremacy of Aba nay Abia state in not just the South East, but in the country at large would have been 90 percent completed. That road holds the key to unlocking the economic potentials of Aba,” Eze Mbakwe stated.
