The ancient temple of the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity (ROF) along Okpara Square-Mission Hill Umuahia is one of the 130 affected buildings in the ongoing construction of the six-Lane Express Tower-Umuoriehi-Ossah road project by the administration of Gov Alex Otti.
NewsCritic reports that though the entire structure was not demolished by the government bulldozer, the old fence of the ROF building which had seen decades and premises were lost in the demolition exercise, leaving just the temple with shattered widow frames standing like skeleton.
Residents of Umuahia who spoke to this Newspaper over the demolition exercise said that the government is too big for any individual, hence the temple of the ROF which many people thought was untouchable has fallen victim of government development policy initiatives.
Sources said that some property owners who thought they could intimidate the government to spare their properties have now seen that government is big and that there is no stopping it when it resolves to do anything to drive infrastructural development of the state.
At the time of this report the engineers are still taking measurement of some demolished structures to ensure that they got the actual metres required for the expansion job and not yield to any scheme to short-change the government.
